Jo works out of our Kiama Downs clinic and covers the surrounding Illawarra region.
Following a number of years working with children and adults with Autism and other special needs in the UK and USA, Jo qualified as a Speech Pathologist from Manchester Metropolitan University (UK) in 2000, BSc. (Hons.) Psychology and Speech Pathology. Jo and her family now live in Kiama Downs.
Jo is a passionate, highly skilled and experienced speech pathologist, highly regarded for her collaborative work with families and other professionals. Jo has worked in a variety of Speech Pathology roles including working for the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, within multidisciplinary clinics, preschools, schools and diagnostic centres as well as with Defence Force schools and families in Europe, providing therapy and training. For the past seven years Jo has been the principal therapist of Starfish Speech Pathology, providing high quality, child-centred mobile therapy in homes, preschool, schools and clinics. Jo is highly regarded for providing informative screening and innovative and practical training to parents, teachers, psychologists and other health professionals.
In recent years Jo has worked in the Catholic Education System as part of a highly successful Allied Health training program, up-skilling teaching staff on inclusive practice within their schools. Jo is committed to collaborative working with other professionals and families to achieve optimum results.
Jo has successfully completed many postgraduate courses on topics such as autism, ADHD, ADD, sensory integration, executive function, literacy, dyslexia, working memory, dyspraxia and feeding difficulties among others.
Jo is also the co-director of the innovative Inclusion Therapy Training. A NESA Board of Studies (previously BOSTES) approved evidence and needs based, high quality professional consultancy and training business for education and health professionals as well as parents.
As the mother of two active boys, Jo loves the outdoor life. Jo truly believes that the key to children achieving their full potential is that they feel safe and secure and there is continuous and respectful shared knowledge and goals between all those involved with the child.
OLIVIA JACKSON (OT)
Olivia has worked in paediatrics since her graduation from the University of Sydney in 1989, with a Masters in Paediatrics. She has over 28 years experience working with children with disabilities and diagnoses, within community settings using a variety of models of service delivery. She has presented professional development sessions to educators from Early Childhood to High School, and has provided education/training to parent groups and other health professional groups. Olivia established Occupational Therapy Paediatric Services in 2004. She has an interest in schools based intervention and recently worked in the Catholic Education System providing staff development and support to teachers. Recently, Olivia has been contracted by the Occupational Therapy Australia to run paediatric workshops for occupational therapists.
